Salary:

$43.80 - 49.70/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional $0.50/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.

Description:

The University Arts and Sciences programming at Northern Lights College offers a wide variety of courses for students interested in working toward certificate or diploma completion at Northern Lights College or receiving transfer credit at other post-secondary institutions.

The contract consists of 45 contact hours with students plus 45 hours of preparation time for a total contract of 90 hours for each of two courses: SOIL 230: Soil Classification and FRST 225: Forest Ecology. Additionally, a LAND 290: Work Practicum course is available and consists of 15 hours of contact time with students and liaising with practicum sponsors during the term for a total contract of 45 hours. An individual can apply to teach one, two, or all three of the courses.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Minimum of a Masters' Degree in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline, with five years of field experience relating to land reclamation or remediation in the North American oil and gas industry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline;
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment;
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential; and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
