Salary:

 

 

$38.33 - $47.77/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement.  Temporary employees receive an additional $0.50/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.

The contract consists of 45 contact hours with students with an additional 45 hours of preparation (over a 16 week period).

Description:

The University Arts and Sciences programming at Northern Lights College offers a wide variety of courses for students interested in working toward certificate or diploma completion at Northern Lights College, or receiving transfer credit at other post-secondary institutions.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the PSYC 220 Interpersonal Communications in a classroom setting. This course familiarizes the student to a variety of techniques commonly used by interviewers and counselors. Students will be introduced to basic communication and counseling skills within a problem-solving framework. This is a practical course that emphasizes the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to practice in the Social Service Work field.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Master's Degree in Psychology, or a closely related discipline;
  • Experience in the field of interpersonal communications, either through education or work experience;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Psychology, or a closely related discipline; 
  • Provincial Instructor's Diploma Program (PIDP) or an equivalent credential in Adult Education; 
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment; and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
