Salary:

 

Classification 8, $21.97/hr, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement.  Temporary employees are provided an additional $0.50/hr in lieu of benefits, and 6% vacation pay, for all regular hours worked.

Description:

Do you love working with children?  Do you enjoy planning activities and implementing fun, educational daycare programs? 

To provide care, education and assistance in a licensed group child care environment.  The Daycare Assistant has co-responsibility for program planning, facilitating learning through play and implementation of all aspects of inclusive care for children between 30 months and school-age. Duties include assessing, observing and responding to children as needed to promote and support growth, development and wellbeing as well as facilitating communications with parents and other staff about children's learning and experiences. The Daycare Assistant provides routine care and supportive guidance to children in a safe, responsive and developmentally appropriate manner. The provision of care will include preparing snacks and meals, organizing field trips and outings, and may involve assisting practicum students. Other duties will include cleaning facilities and equipment according to Community Care Facility Licensing standards. A commitment to ongoing professional development is expected in order to maintain applicable standing with the ECE Registry.

Qualifications:

Early Childhood Educator Certificate preferred; ECE Assistant (ECEA) Certificate may be considered with Early Childhood Certificate studies in progress. Experience working with children required. Experience and knowledge of inclusive child care and special needs certification are preferred. Must provide proof of compliance with immunization policy for child care settings. Standard or Child Safe First Aid preferred, Food Safe level 1 is considered an asset. Excellent interpersonal communications skills are required. Prior to confirmation of employment, the successful employee must demonstrate satisfactory results of a criminal record search.
