Reporting to: Dean of Academic & Vocational Programs


$43.80 - $49.70/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional $0.50/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay day.


NLC requires a sessional instructor to teach one or more sections of English. Each course consists of 45 student contact hours plus 45 preparation hours for a contract of up to 90 hours per course. It is anticipated there will be at least four courses available for instruction, although this is subject to adequate enrolment. The successful candidate should be prepared to teach all of the following English courses:

  • ENGL 099: University Preparation
  • ENGL 110: Introduction to Workplace Communications
  • ENGL 100: Academic Writing

Delivery of fall courses begins on Sept 7th and continues until December 4th, with final exams scheduled between Dec 6th to 16th.

  • Minimum of a Masters' Degree in English, or a closely related discipline.
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to student motivation and success; and the
  • Ability to function effectively as a team member through collaborative approaches to course pedagogy.


  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
  • Demonstrable success as an instructor in a post-secondary environment.
