Salary:

$43.80 - 49.70/hr, depending on experience and qualifications, as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional $0.50/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay period.

Description:

NLC requires a sessional instructor to teach one section of HSCI 100: Introduction to Health Sciences. This position consists of 45 student contact hours for the lecture and 36 student contact hours for the lab, plus preparation hours for a contract of up to 159 hours. HSCI 100 is designed for students considering a career in health care and is particularly intended for individuals who are preparing for UNBC's new Northern Baccalaureate Nursing Program.

The delivery model is face to face for the lab on the Fort St. John campus with the lecture delivered from Fort St. John by videoconference to other NLC campus locations. Delivery of fall courses begins on Sept 7th and continues until December 4th, with final exams scheduled between Dec 6th to 16th. There is a total of 6.0 student contact hours per week (3.0 lecture hours and 3.0 lab hours) during the semester.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a Masters' Degree in Nursing or in a related field; alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience in nursing.
  • One North American post-secondary degree, preferably the terminal degree.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.

Preferred:

  • PhD in Nursing.
  • The Provincial Instructor Diploma Program or an equivalent credential in adult education, or a readiness to pursue such a credential.
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
