$43.80 - $49.70/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional $0.50/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.


NLC's Health Care Assistant Program requires a temporary full-time instructor to deliver the clinical of HCAT 127: Practice Experience in Multi-Level and/or Complex Care. This supervised practice experience provides students with an opportunity to apply knowledge and skills from all other courses in the program with individuals in a multi-level or complex care setting. A portion of this clinical experience will be devoted to working with individuals with dementia. Opportunity will be provided for students to gain expertise and confidence with the role of the HCA within a residential care facility.

Student contact time will take place from April 17th through to June 7th, with prep provided prior to the beginning of the course.

This intake is offered under the Health Care Assistant Partnership Pathway, a government initiative intended to increase British Columbia's HCA labour force.



  • Completion of an accredited Diploma in Practical Nursing or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing;
  • Current, full practicing registration with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives as an LPN, RPN, RN or NP;
  • Minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent Canadian Nursing experience with relevant knowledge of the Canadian healthcare system and of the roles and responsibilities of healthcare team members (experience should also include home support and multi-level complex care for older adults);
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccinations (as mandated by PHO),
  • Demonstrated ability to teach adult learners: e.g., completion of (or satisfactory progress in) the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program; or previous teaching experience with satisfactory evaluations; or, where PIDP or teaching evaluations are absent, teaching ability must be demonstrated during the interview process;
  • Ability to contribute as a team member;
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
