NLC's two-year Practical Nursing Diploma program requires a regular, full-time instructor to deliver courses with an emphasis on the second-year curriculum. Building on first-year skills, relevant courses focus on nursing care and assessment within the LPN scope of practice for clients who are experiencing multiple health challenges. Particular attention is paid to acute care in settings such as surgical wards, pediatrics, and maternity.  In-depth knowledge of the scope of practice for LPNs is required.

As a member of the Health Sciences Department team, you will be expected to seek excellence in instruction by applying various teaching strategies and working with colleagues to promote an environment of inquiry and evidence-informed practice.  Instructors must have exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

The curriculum provides a learning experience that is integrated, professional, collaborative, and culturally sensitive, with an aim to prepare graduates to care for individuals (and families of individuals) at multiple life stages and in a variety of practice settings.

  • Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing Diploma or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing;
  • Current, practicing license as an RN or LPN with the BC College of Nursing Professionals;
  • Minimum of three-to-five years (full-time equivalent) of recent Canadian Nursing experience including experience in areas such as acute care, mental health and/or maternity/child;
  • Formal accreditation in teaching adults or a willingness to immediately begin such accreditation by pursuing the Provincial Instructor Diploma Program (PIDP) or an equivalent credential. (Credential to be completed within 5 years of employment at NLC);
  • Proficiency and experience in word processing, PowerPoint, learning management systems, and other forms of computer-based education and communication.
