Reporting to:       Associate Dean of Academic & Vocational Programs                                                                                                                        

Salary:

$38.33 - $47.77/hr, depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement.  Temporary employees receive an additional $0.50/hour in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay.

Description:

NLC's Indigenous Human Service Worker (IHSW) certificate program is a stand-alone University Arts and Sciences program, but also has opportunities to ladder into NLC's Social Services Worker Diploma.  Individual courses also transfer to other BC institutions.

The program requires a part-time instructor to teach IHSW 103: Indigenous Wellness and Healthy Practices for the Fall 2019 semester.

Qualifications: 

Required:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or First Nations Studies, or a closely related field. (A Bachelor's Degree in a related field with extensive work experience in a related field will be considered.)
  • Demonstrated extensive experience working with or in local indigenous communities or in-depth knowledge of local indigenous traditional practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Committed to student motivation and achievement; and
  • Ability to collaborate as an effective team member.

Preferred:

  • Ph.D in Social Work or First Nations Studies, or a closely related field;
  • Provincial Instructor's Diploma Program (PIDP) or an equivalent credential in Adult Education; 
  • Previous instructional experience in a post-secondary environment; and
  • Experience instructing a culturally diverse group of students, including Indigenous and international students.
